Review: Queen Takes King

Queen Takes King Queen Takes King by Joely Sue Burkhart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this installment of the series, Shara learns more about her lineage, which helps her to better understand her power. We also find her growing more comfortable in that power. Not only does she call additional blood, she also shows other queens in the court that despite her young age and lack of experience, she is a worthy adversary and not to be messed with.

Again, the author’s take on the vampire myth is interesting. We’ve got vampires who shapeshift to rock trolls, war cats, ravens, wolves, dragons… Another curious twist is the symbiotic relationship between a queen and her blood.

Just as with Queen Takes Knights, there is a lot of smex happening. In the bed. In the tub. On the couch. In the snow…. With one knight or two or three (or four)… And it’s not just pleasurable, the act grows Shara’s power. Yes, please!

I like the cast of characters, including our newcomers. It’s also good to see the character growth in our Queen. It will be interesting to see how Shara will handle her developing power, the threats she faces, and her ever-increasing blood.
