Saxon’s Distortion is a fast-paced story that follows Saxon, a member of Black Slaughter, a secret vigilante organization. In his role, Saxon delivers his own brutal, violent brand of justice to those deemed targets by Black Slaughter. Saxon has no-filter, gives zero sh!ts, and did I mention he’s a sociopath?! Despite, or because of that, his banter with others, particularly Amelia and Cordelia, is some of the best.
The book is surprisingly witty and, at times, laugh-out-loud funny while being twisty and suspenseful.
Aside from the suspense, we also get a healthy dose of steam in the form of a non-traditional relationship. I loved the dynamic between Saxon and Melly. Friends to unexpected lovers. And can we talk about Cory?! As a 40-something myself, it was refreshing to have a h who wasn’t fresh out of high school. Don’t get me wrong I love those heroines too, but this was an awesome change of pace!!
Personally, I would have preferred a slightly different conclusion. However, the ending doesn’t change my overall rating or opinion of the book.
This was my first read by CA Rene and it won’t be my last! I jumped into the Whitsborough world a bit late. No worries, I’ll be backtracking and meeting the others soon enough!
⚠️Safety Squad: past and current sexual assault, primarily off-page, recounted miscarriage.
