Review: Elite

Elite Elite by Ivy Smoak
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In Untouchable, the first book of the Empire High series, we met Brooklyn Sanders. We were left on a major cliffhanger as, after losing her mother and uncle in a short span of time, she was yet again blindsided. At Uncle Jim’s funeral she came face-to-face with her birth father, whom she knew nothing about. To make matters worse, her arch nemesis, Isabelle, is her new step-sister. If the bullying wasn’t bad before, it’s taken on a whole new level in Elite.

The series is a chock full of great characters who all seem to have secrets. That said, I enjoyed the growth and development of several of them, most notably Felix and Mr. Pruitt. However, the pace remains slower and the plot is still predictable. Likewise, Brooklyn is still vacillating between her two love interests, and has even added another to the mix. I’m anxiously awaiting some forward momentum with the storyline and major growth for Brooklyn in the next installment.
