Review: Owned by a Sinner

Owned by a Sinner Owned by a Sinner by Michelle Heard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Kiara Murphy unwittingly accepts a job at the last place her father wants her working, Byrne Enterprises, she quickly becomes the target of Finn Byrne.

Despite a general aversion to people and, particularly, touch, Liam Byrne, CEO of Byrne Enterprises and Chicago Don, is instantly mesmerized by Kiara. When he finds himself not feeling sickened by her touch, but craving it, he knows she’s different, his.

“So that’s it? You decide I’m yours, and that’s the end of the story?” My mouth curves up. “No, it’s the beginning of the story.”

I really loved so many aspects of this story. I love the dichotomy of a made man when he is both tough and tender. However, if I’m being 100% honest, this story was a bit flat for me. I did not read Taken by a Sinner and kicked myself for weeks when I saw the raving reviews. When the early opportunity for Owned came up I was all over it. That said, it felt like there were a lot of missed opportunities. The mafia vibe was very understated with little on-page action. Likewise, the couple of smexy times were almost fade-to-black. It could be said I’m a whörė, but I want that sh!t sprinkled like confetti. Is that a me problem? Perhaps. I think I had misguided expectations based on the first in the series. Was it a good read? Yes. Will I try another by the author? Yep.
